Wish we could go to the Moon together
3D motion graphics, illustration
October 2025
Macao
This project conceptually merges the traditional Asian Mid-Autumn Festival with the narrative themes of the anime *Cyberpunk: Edgerunners*. Both stories share a powerful motif of longing for the Moon, which serves as the foundation for this animated piece exploring unattainable dreams and bittersweet sacrifice.
The central artifact is a holographic, one-way boarding pass for a futuristic lunar tour. The ticket's design employs an iridescent, ethereal aesthetic to convey a sense of liminality—questioning whether the fulfillment of a dream is worth the price of permanent separation. Narrative lore from both inspirations is woven into the details, from the stylised typography to the passenger's name, "Lalita J. Rabbit," a direct reference to the festival's Jade Rabbit folklore.
The piece is presented as a 3D animation, with the ticket rotating in a digital void, enhanced by subtle chromatic aberration and glitch effects. This sense of an idealised, yet fragile object is punctuated by a key visual: the appearance of fractured glass across the ticket's surface. This element serves as a direct visual metaphor for the tragic, bittersweet conclusion central to both of the stories’ narratives.
The project consists of a front-and-back design, unified by a holographic colour palette. All static assets and effects were created in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, with the final 3D motion graphics composed and rendered in Adobe After Effects.
