This design series continues its exploration of festive communication through a Valentine's Day card design. The initiative aims to reflect on what love means to individuals and question whether the emotions elicited are love or limerence.
The project captures the essence of love through elements of fantasy and reality, drawing inspiration from song lyrics, Japanese anime and anatomical drawings. These elements are expressed through print and animation in an intended composition.
This project challenges our understanding of love in the digital age and explores the limbo between obsession and love. This is shown through two unsynchronised heartbeats, meaningful song lyrics, and colours inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion—an anime series where love serves as a fundamental element, albeit in twisted forms. The overlay of an anatomical heart drawing grounds the piece in reality while maintaining visual appeal.
To maintain consistency with previous cards in the series, the same paper stock is used, while incorporating watercolour and acrylic markers for alternative presentation methods. The design features illustrations in pink, red, purple, and neon green ink, screen-printed on Potentate 300 gsm corrugated hot press watercolour paper through a 200-mesh silk screen. Digitally, the animation is created using Adobe After Effect.
